As most Hardwick residents will know it’s Open Gardens Day, on the last Sunday in June, is a long standing community event. Raising much needed funds for the Florence Nightingale Hospice in Stoke Mandeville it is also an opportunity to socialise in the village for residents, their families & friends as well as visitors from across Bucks and wider. We raised £615 in 2019 & hoped to improve on that in 2020.
However we will not be able to open our gardens this year & HVCA is keen to find a way to help the Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity get the funds it so badly needs.
This year we are doing something different to raise money. HVCA are organising a competition to ‘Grow the tallest sunflower for Florence’.
In the next few days every household will receive an envelope containing 6 seeds with instructions on how to plant & grow your sunflowers. You have until Saturday 19th September when the tallest sunflower will be crowned the winner. Send us your photos of your tallest sunflower & it’s height + your name etc or ask us to come & measure/photo it for you. More details on that will follow nearer to judging time. Photos will be posted on the Hardwick Village website www.hardwick-village.co.uk.
If you don’t feel able to plant your seeds please pass them on to family or friends – they can plant on your behalf.
Hardwick Parish Council are kindly sponsoring this event with a donation of £250, You can add to this by making a donation by cheque made payable to Hardwick Village Community Association or cash posted in an envelope with your name & address, through the door or letter box at Langland View (Amanda) or Church View, 3 Coronation Bungalows (Gill) or ring 01296 640688 for collection.
