The 2020 Poppy Appeal in Hardwick

This year we were unable to do our usual door to door collections and other fundraising events for the Royal British  Legion.  Hardwick Village Community Association and the Parish Council collaborated to “bring the poppies to the people”.  In October each of the 100 or so households in Hardwick were sent an envelope containing 2 poppies and a raffle ticket with a request to make a donation to the Poppy Appeal and return it with their raffle tickets. The prizes of a home made Christmas cake & an photo of the Poppy  tribute at the Imperial War Museum were donated by local residents Sue Hoskinson & professional photographer Graham Lee.

On Sunday 8th November at just after 11am the draw was made.  The winner of the cake was Mrs Wright and Mrs Ferguson won the Poppy Photo

Most importantly £700 was donated to the Royal British Legion thanks to the generosity of Hardwick Residents.

This is an amazing achievement.  We set out with the target of matching the two or three hundred pounds usually raised in Hardwick from poppy sales and other events.  We have ended up more than doubling that.

Thank you to Amanda, Sue, Fiona & Richard, Graham and Team Murray for making this happen and to everyone who made a donation.

Lest we forget.
